I’ve been into writing all my life, working on poetry, novels and short stories. In the last few years I’ve really got into comedy writing, and have penned several 15 minute plays.
I wrote the piece below for a two minute monologue for Buglight Theatre’s Isolation Monolgues on the theme of the Afterlife, called “Uber Una” and performed by Angela Wityszyn.
Angela WityszynAngela has made recurring appearances in Emmerdale since 2017 and also appeared in CBBC’s The Dumping Ground. She is a born and bred Yorkshire lass. Angela began her professional acting career in 2016.
In 2005 Endpapers Publishing House in York awarded me for my short story contribution: The Storyteller’s Tale in the book York Tales. Endpapers then asked if I would contribute to their short story trail: “Breadcrumbs”, a unique trail devised for families walking around York. I wrote three stories for them of a fairytale nature, working as part of a team of four writers. On the back of this, one of my stories was performed as a short play in Kings Square, York. I have also contributed short stories to Crannog magazine and poetry to Stairwell Books’ poetry collections. Since those earlier days I have become more interested in writing comedy.
There have been several public performances of my comedy plays at York Scriptfactor in City Screen Basement. I am a member of Script Yorkshire and nowadays write comedy plays, stand-up material and novels. I’m currently editing my first historical novel set in Georgian York and working on a fantasy novel.
Boxes by Helen Sant
In Autumn 2019 York Settlement Players chose my play “Boxes” a comedy sci-fi set in a packing factory to be performed in York. Current interesting times have put a halt to proceedings, but I trust one day the performance will go ahead in a local pub. Details of exact date and times to be posted when finalised.
